CONDITION: Somewhat tattered condition with holes and tears, losses, discoloration, age.

BACKGROUND:
Kalpasutra is an earliest religious Jain text that deals with the life stories of the last two Jain Tirthankaras, Parshvanath and Mahavira. This is one of the most popular Jain texts to be illustrated and is still read aloud to the laity every year during the rainy season.
Kalpasutra contains detailed biographies with illustrations. The other two Tirthankaras Adinath and Neminath are mentioned in this book, with Adinath depicted in some of the pictures.
Kalpasutra was written by Bhadrabahu and written about one hundred a fifty years after Nirvana of Mahavira
.
In the eight day long festival of Paryushan by Jain monks Kalpasutra is read for the general Jain people.
