1859 Letter, Harper’s Ferry, John Brown, Northerner Flees, Clarksburg, Slavery
    Description:
Letter, dated Nov 1859, Briar Dale,   from a niece to an Aunt. Discusses John Brown’s fate, Harper’s Ferry, and a northern brother-in-law forced to flee to Baltimore from Clarksburg:
“What do you think of the proceedings at Harper’s Ferry.  I presume old Brown is an inhabitant of a warmer world than this is here this morning at least. Some persons here are very much afraid there will be disturbances here during the Holidays. I do not anticipate any danger.
I had a letter from Aunt Sara some days ago - she wrote me that at Clarksburg they took up my brother-in-law. He was compelled to flee to Baltimore. My ire was somewhat excided when I first heard it.  But after considering the matter I could wonder that all hailing North of the Mason and Dixon are looked upon with suspicion.”
10” X 8” single sheet, folded, four complete pages, brown ink.
