Up for sale is this great antique early 1800's manuscript cookbook.  A few of the entries are signed at the bottom "Sophia Hall" and are dated from 1802-1805.  There is a much later gift inscription to the front pastedown which is dated 1911.  The book is full with approximately 73 pages of handwritten recipes on 37 leaves and an additional 5 handwritten pages at the rear containing an index of recipes.  The index is written upside down.  After the end of the index there is evidence of a few removed leaves.  The covers have a decent amount of scuffing and wear with some corner wear and edge wear.  The binding is good and sound.
All of the recipes are written in fountain pen.  The pages are lightly toned from age with some occasional mild soiling/grubbiness, a few ink splotches, etc.  A few of the pages have some fading to the ink.  One of the leaves is partially detached by a few inches and a couple of pages have a small chip or tear.  The book measures approximately 8 inches by 6 1/2 inches.  It is most likely English in origin.  Please look at all of the photos to further note the condition.
