Autograph Letter by Dudley Selden Congressman to Henry Brevoort of NYC ca. 1839Rare early 1839 letter between Dudley Selden and Henry Brevoort Jr. Esq.
They were both powerful men in early New York history.
Dudley Selden was a member of the New York assembly in 1831 and a member of the US Congress

Henry Brevoort Jr. Esq was a member of the Lewis and Clark expedition and worked for John Jacob Astor.
Good friend of Washington Irving.
The Brevoort family owned over 100 acres of early New York. They prevented the opening of 11th street between Broadway and the Bowery in the 1830s and 1840s to prevent the destruction of the family's farmhouse.
The letter addresses the Brevoort purchase with John Flack of property on 6th street and Avenue D. It was conveyed to Elias Brevoort
