ILLUMINATED QURAN MANUSCRIPT FROM THE OTTOMAN ERA:
What you see is a handwritten old
Quran
manuscript from the
Ottoman
era. This beautiful book is
undated
but looks like
250
years old (
I am not sure
). The date and calligrapher apparently were written at the end but were
vanished
as well. it is
unbound
but the previous owner had
repaired
the book and made a new leather cover with wrap. The leaves are well preserved but some were
damaged and repaired perfectly
. The text is written with beautiful Arabic calligraphy in bold letters and black and red inks. The text is framed within
golden
frames and shows
laceration
in most leaves due to
heavy gold
metal. Some leaves also exhibit ink
blotches
.
Many colored
medallion ornaments
exist in a significant number of leaves. The spine is tight and the leaves show no worm holes.
It is formed of
300
leaves and
600
pages. The leaves are
affected by foxing and some dirt.
It measures 16.0 cm x 11.0 cm x 3.0 cm.
