Description
An original leaf from a rare early Renaissance printing of Dante's Divine Comedy. Printed in Venice for Bartolomeo de Zanna da Portese in 1507. Measures about 8.25" x 12".The leaf is page 266 (folio CCLXVI) of the volume. It contains the end of Canto XVIII (Mars' heaven) and the beginning of Canto XIX (Jupiter's heaven). The leaf also contains contemporary commentary by Cristoforo Landino. Dante's verse is in larger type, and the smaller-type material surrounding it is Cristoforo's commentary. There is printing on both sides of the leaf. The second side contains a woodcut where Canto XIX begins.
This leaf is in very nice condition. There is some browning at the edges. There are three pinholes as shown.
