A manuscript leaf from a fragment of a medieval bible commentary, which most likely was produced in a French scriptorium around 1230. The large elongated blue and red intitial is accented in gold. It starts line two of chapter 33
: "Venit dominus de Sinai: et de Seir ortus est nobis apparuit de monte Phanin..." 'The Lord came from Sinai, and dawned on them from Seir; He shone forth from Mount Parin...'
Condition:
As shown, on vellum in very good condition with only minor evidence of use and ageing. There is worm hole in the lower margin and scarcely noticeable miniscule holes in some of the letters due to ink oxidation.
