This wonderful 20th century original Native American Indian art is signed by the artist on the back (Johnson) with a hand written title ---
Sun and Eagle with Rainbow
bars around it.  And Pollen
boy in the center.
The following is printed above and to the right of the title:

This sand painting is in a light oak frame that is about 14 1/2" square.  The frame "window" is about 11 1/2" square.  There is no glass over the sandpainting.  It is in very good, but not perfect condition.  If you look very closely, you can see just a few faint marks/rubs/scratches from wear/handling/age.
The painting is signed on the back "Johnson".  Perhaps it is by Rita Johnson of the multi-generation of Johnson sandpainters in Sheep Springs, New Mexico.  It is also possible that it is by another Navajo artist --  Lester Johnson of Shiprock, New Mexico.
This is simiar to a Sun and Eagle sandpainting by Navajo artist Diane Thomas that we sold recently on Ebay.  Some information she wrote on the back of her painting assists in the interpretation of this one:
"Sun and Eagle     This is the symbol of the combined power of the sun, air and water, which brings all things into perfection.   There are feathers for each direction.  Each feather for a song and all the songs together for a chant."

The following was printed on a card on the back of the sandpainting we sold by Diane Thomas, another Navajo artist, and it is useful in understanding Johnson's painting of the same theme:
