    Description

Vintage 1917 U.S. World War I Propaganda Poster
    Approximately 22" by 17"
    Linen-Backed
    Condition:  Approximately A
Illustrated by H.H. Green in 1918, this World War I poster shows a mother and child saying bed-time prayers superimposed on the American flag, with the message "My Soldier" across the top and "Buy United States Government Bonds Third Liberty Loan" at the bottom. Below the mother and child is a short prayer inspired by the traditional "Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep" children's prayer. This poster comes from a collection compiled by the Historical Commission of Ohio, which contains World War I-era posters encouraging citizens to support the war effort by enlisting in the armed forces, buying bonds, and rationing food and gas.
