Description
Amazing Antique Original Lithograph, "Helping Hoover in Our U.S. School Garden", ca. 1917. This Victory Garden poster was from WWI to promote children to get involved. It is published by the American Lithographic Co., N.Y. and is printed on the bottom of the poster. Issued by the U.S. School Garden Army Bureau of Education, Department of Interior, Washington D.C.This is an incredibly rare original piece, also found listed in the Library of Congress!
The poster is matted and framed with a wall hanger on back. It is VERY large measuring 39"h x 26.5"w. There are 2 possible tears or creases at the top of the poster (please see last photo for a closer look). I cannot tell if they are tears or just creases. And the color has faded a bit. Overall, the lithograph is in incredible condition. The frame has some scuffs, and the back paper has some rips.
Hoover
organized shipment of food for millions of starving people in central Europe, and even extended aid into Soviet Russia in 1921. For his efforts, he became an important wartime adviser to
President Woodrow Wilson
, who made
Hoover
a part of
the
American delegation to
the
conference of
the
Treaty of Versailles.
In the spring of 1917, the United States entered the war against Germany. President Woodrow Wilson appointed Hoover to “immediately place in operation his plans for food control in the United States.” From 1917 to 1918 Hoover served as the head of the U.S. Food Administration, a specially created wartime agency of the federal government.
What a rare and incredible piece of US History!
