    Description

We are pleased to offer a original WW1 Red Cross poster promoting volunteerism as it covered the third roll call for volunteers, and was held from November 2-11 (not sure of year). The poster asks "Will you be one of a million workers to secure members for The American Red Cross" & "Volunteer Now at your chapter headquarters". This poster is approx 19 3/4" W X 30 H", and is marked near the bottom left corner with the following "Postmasters will display this poster conspicously in the Post Office Today- A S Burleson Postmaster General". He served in this capacity from 1914-21. This poster was one of many displayed by the owners of a local variety store ( not sure if they were also a postal sub station) here in New Hampshire. According to the original store owners descendents, in order to preserve this poster along with many others they inherited, sometime in the 1950's the posters were preserved by covering them in plastic and placed on a poster backing. Thankfully it was shrink wrapped and never affixed to the backing itself. Considering this poster is close to 100 years old, it is in very good condition with some minor tears along the outer edges, some creasing, and is missing a small section in the bottom right corner. If you have any questions please email me.
