RARE Medieval Vellum Illuminated Manuscript BOH Leaf w/ Miniatures, Italy, 1480

Description

Up for auction is a very scarce medieval vellum illuminated Book of Hours leaf in Latin, Italian origin, circa 1480. The text is from the Office of the Dead. The verso depicts a inhabited initial on a burnished gold background with a skeleton holding a scythe. At the bottom is a small skull with crossbones within the elaborate marginal decoration. The recto contains text and is not decorated.
Despite some rubbing of the decoration and text on the verso, this interesting leaf from the Office of the Dead is in good condition.
