This is a very interesting copy of the major
Sunni Maliki
reference book
“
al-Jawaher al-Hisan fi Tafsir al-Qur’an
”
by
Imam Abu Zaid al-Tha’alibi
. It is a hand written manuscript,
undated
but looks like
300 years old
or more (
I am not sure
). The text is about explanation of the Holy Quran based on some
Sunni Muslims jurisprudences
. It is considered one of the most important
references
in the Islamic library. The text is written with fantastic Arabic calligraphy of
North African
and
Andalusia
style. Unfortunately, the
first chapter
(
12 leaves
)
is
missing
and
replaced
by new ones with a different calligraphy. The text also contains many
Gold
illuminated
Sura Headings
and ornamental
Medallions
. The text is affected by foxing and a little worming. The text also contains words written with
gold
or
colors
. The spine is tight. It is
unbound
and shows no damage in the leaves. The manuscript is
incomplete
, but the missing 12 leaves were replaced with a different recent calligrapher. It is formed of
219
leaves and
438
pages. It measures 27.0 x 20.0 x 5.0 cm. You

exactly what you
see
in the scans.
