    Description

You're bidding on "Pro Jure Et Libertate", a WWI period color lithographic print - 23" X 19" total size - published by R.L. Pittet, Lausanne, Switzerland. Print depicts officers of the Allied powers raising their colors, with an American officer prominently at center - behind him, battleships steam in a harbor and biplanes soar in the sky. Below, in the center of the motto is a garland ringed image of a sort-of classical looking woman bearing an axe in one hand and resting her other arm on a shield emblazoned with the Swiss cross.
NOTE - I rescued the piece from the barn of an estate, and it has some issues of condition - it's fully matted to backing board, although it has an old Swiss framer's label on the back, so probably it has basically always been this way. Chipping at bottom right corner, foxing/spotting/moisture/mildew in the margins, and some scratch/scuff within the image area, including a ding with some paper loss at right-center edge near the decorative border. SOLD AS IS AS FOUND.
Still nice color and decent appeal, though - and appears to be quite scarce in any condition - I was not able to find another example or even a reference to it in my research. Please review photos carefully to make your own determination of condition and appeal, and don't hesitate to ask any questions prior to bidding - thanks for looking!
